CAMP SPECIFICS

Looking for a camp experience where you make friends, learn to meet new challenges, enjoy nature, learn about our past, and just have a lot of fun. The Tallahassee Museum offers campers the opportunity to live in the past while learning about how to plan for the future. The Museum has provided quality camps in this area for over 30 years.

Activities include:
52+ acres to explore Hands-on science activities
Games Nature studies
Hands-on history activities Field trips (2nd grade and up)
Arts and crafts Stories
Live animals Experienced and caring teachers
A safe environment And more!

STAFF: All staff has experience working with children and background checked.

AGES: Ages listed are for the child’s age as of June 1, 2010

REGISTRATION: Campers are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

DEPOSITS: $30 non-refundable deposit for each camp session must be received with registration form before your child is put on the camp roster. Remaining balance is due 14 days prior to camp. Camp fees are non-refundable 10 days prior to camp starting date. No exceptions!

DISCOUNT FOR SIBLINGS: Full fee for first child, $5 off camp fee for each additional sibling registered for the same week of camp.

Full Day camps: 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. M - F
Preschool summer camps: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. M-F

EXTENDED HOURS:
Full Day
camps: 7:45-8:45 a.m. and 4:45-5:45 p.m.; Fee: $30/week
Preschool Summer camps: 7:45-8:45 a.m.; Fee: $15/week

CAMP T-SHIRTS: May be pre-ordered or purchased during camp week for $10 each as long as supplies last.

OFF SITE PICK UP/DROP OFF SERVICE:
Fee: $65 per week, Locations at:

  • Lake Ella (near the gazebo)
  • Kmart (Apalachee Pkwy)
  • Publix Shopping Center (Crawfordville Rd & Capital Circle)

FIELD TRIP DAYS:
6-7 years – No fieldtrips
8-9 years – Tuesdays & Thursdays
10-11 years – Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays
12-14 years – Monday-Friday (all-day or half-day trips)

DRESS/NEEDED ITEMS: These camps are primarily outdoor camps. Campers should be prepared for changing weather conditions each day. Campers are required to wear closed-toed shoes. (Campers may be sent home if they come without closed-toed shoes.) Each day send a bag with: sunscreen, insect repellant, refillable water bottle and two snacks. If the forecast calls for rain, please send a rain poncho.

CAMP LUNCH PROGRAM: The Museum’s Trail Break Café offers a lunch program for campers when they are on grounds, not on fieldtrip days. Lunch order forms will be enclosed with your camp confirmation, or find it Camp Forms section on this page.

Wild Side

Which Bear Lives Where?

From polar bears to sun bears, bears and their close relatives live just about everywhere. We will take a close look at many of them including our own black bears!

Farm Adventures

You’ll get to meet the barnyard family when you travel back to this 1880s farm! There will be crafts and games, but don’t forget about learning how to cook and do the chores!

Travel around the world to learn about unique animals and their habitats! You’ll visit the African savannah, rainforests of the Amazon, and the Everglades right here in Florida!

Every day you’ll learn about a different group of animals we have at the Museum! Through nature activities, games, live animals and field trips, you’ll be an expert on insects, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and birds!

Water World

Explore the underwater world as you learn about aquatic species and their natural habitat in both fresh and salt water. Snorkeling, netting, and even hiking—you might just learn about some of the animals back on land, too!

Whether underground, high up in trees or right here on the ground, you will discover the different homes animals, pioneers, and Native Americans lived in! Would you be able to build your own home from logs, dirt, or maybe even try pillows and blankets!?

Summer in the Sunshine State

Take a regional tour of your home state! See the marvel of the Florida Caverns, swim in the natural springs, and even visit the historic State Capitol!

Wilderness Expedition

Prepare yourself for the outdoors! This camp will teach you the ways of the wild—orienteering, animal identification, survival skills—all while hiking, canoeing, and exploring the outdoors!

Zoo Crew **(Two Week Camp)

Can you fill our zookeepers’ shoes? Get a taste of what it is like to care for animals, design a habitat, help with diets, and interact with the Museum’s visitors as you help with Animal Encounters. This two-week camp will open your eyes to the behind-the-scenes happenings! Fieldtrips include a visit to an area zoo and/or an aquarium.

Water Adventures

Get ready for an intense week of science explorations as you meet scientists in the field of archaeology, meteorology, ecology, forensics and more! You’ll jump right into hands-on experiments and learn what it’s like to be a mad scientist!

The Adventure Challenge

How’s your sense of adventure? This camp will test your leadership and teambuilding skills as you face a variety of activities! Then you’ll tube down the Ichetucknee River, canoe the Chipola and make it home in time for dinner!

Creative Cooking

Get ready to learn the essentials of hearth cooking, wood stove cooking and cooking over a campfire! You’ll learn basic vegetable and herb gardening, how to build a fire and the best recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert!

Nature Photography

August 9-13 Camp #1299 - CLOSING SOON

Experience and learn about nature through the lens of a camera. Study the science of light and color, learn about the biology of the local landscape, and explore different styles of nature photography. Each day we will travel to a different location to find the perfect picture. Campers must bring their own digital camera.
