Girl Scouts

Enjoy Girl Scout activities specially tailored by the Tallahassee Museum. All programs include some of the following: outdoor activities, arts and crafts, stories, games and animal encounters.

Brownies:

Earth and Sky:
Girls will explore the wonders of the sky above them and the ground below them in this hands-on program.  Activities might include: digging at the fossil dig site, learning about composting, exploring weather, sky watching.


Eco-Explorers:
Girls will get a taste of what it means to be an ecologist.  Through hands-on activities, such as observing nature, cleaning a wildlife area, planting native plants, and an up close animal encounter, girls will recognize how plants and animals live together within a habitat.


Animals:
Through hands-on activities girls will recognize the differences between domestic and wild animals. Activities may include: animals sound charades, night time Wild Florida trail, an up close encounter with a live wild animal, an animal diversity game.


Watching Wildlife:
This program invites girls to really observe the wildlife here at the museum. Through hands-on activities girls will recognize why animal homes are specific to the animal that lives there, how and why animals communicate, how and what they eat and animal camouflage.

Juniors:

Folk Arts:
Through hands-on activities girls will recognize the difference between folk arts and fine arts.  In this program girls may experience a glimpse into the past as they explore some of the museum’s historic collection.  Activities may include: the art of story-telling, hands-on with historic items, old-fashioned toy time, drawing your family portrait.


Wildlife:
In this program Juniors will have the opportunity to explore the wildlife here at the museum using real scientific tools! Through activities such as: trekking through the Wild Florida trail, observing wildlife, taking a look under a microscope at some tiny critters, or creating wildlife symbols, girls will recognize importance of caring for Florida’s wildlife.


Your Outdoor Surroundings:
This program encourages girls to have fun outdoors! Through hands-on activities such as: learning ways to protect the environment, nature journaling, bird watching, trekking on trails, or classifying outdoor objects, girls will get a taste of the great many things that the outdoors have to offer.


Local Lore:
In this program, girls will explore Tallahassee’s story as they step back into the past and navigate through to the future! Through hands-on activities such as: learning a local legend, exploring maps, re-planting native plants, and predicting how Tallahassee might change in the next 100 years, girls will gain a better understanding for the town they call home.


Plants and Animals:
This program allows for girls to recognize how significant plants and animals are in our everyday lives.  Through hands-on activities such as finding similarities in wild and domestic cats, touching a boll of cotton, doing a scavenger hunt on the Wild Florida trail, creating seed art, working in the farm garden, girls will appreciate the connections between plants, animals and us.
