Join us Saturday, November 23rd at the Tallahassee Museum for a fun-filled day that celebrates our region’s agricultural heritage!  Fall Farm Day will host an array of activities and demonstrations celebrating the historical and contemporary stories of our region’s farmed resources. The event is FREE with Museum admission.  Demonstrations and activities include:

o    Blacksmithing in the 1880s Forge

o    Living History Interpretation on the 1880s Farm

o Shopping Local Farm Vendors (fruits, vegetables, nuts, dairy, eggs, wine, etc.)

o    Hands-on Farm Activities

o Animal Encounters 

o    Syrup Making (will begin at 9:30 am and sold in the Museum Store)

Nature awareness, animal tracking, and edible plant identification!  These are a few things we will tackle during our outdoor adventures!  Campers will discover how to gather their basic needs, build a shelter, work as a team, and try out native crafts.

ZIP CAMP: This camp is full of fun activities. Campers will have a chance to go through the Tree to Tree Adventures course, as well as enjoy loads of games and stories that they will take home to share with family and friends. Please read the following upon registration.

TREE TO TREE ADVENTURES

Children must be at least 41″ tall. Waivers must be filled out online by a parent or guardian no more than 48 hours prior to the date of camp, OR filled out manually on the day of the camp. Children 41″- 60″ tall may use the TREEmendous Adventures Course, $15 per child. Children at least 54″ tall may use the Canopy Crossing Course, $25 per child. **** Fees are in addition to camp fee****** to register online, choose the grade level your child has completed this year below.

From theme parks to incredible natural settings, Florida is recognized worldwide for its fantastic wonders. In this camp we’ll explore all the things that make our state so cool, and we’ll take a shot at creating our own ads for Florida tourism!

This two day beginning blacksmith workshop will be held at the Museum’s smithy with instructor Michael Murphy, the Museum’s part-time resident blacksmith.  This workshop will be for people with little to no blacksmith experience and is limited to six people.  Each person will have the opportunity to work with the traditional coal burning forge, as well as the more modern propane-burning forge.  Materials will be provided and participants may take their creations with them at the end of the day.

* All participants must be at least 16 years of age.

Do you knit, crochet, or weave?  Have you thought about making your own yarn?  Most people believe that you need a spinning wheel to make yarn.  The truth is that people were making yarn for 20,000 years before spinning wheels were invented, using a simple tool called a hand spindle.  Spindles are inexpensive, portable, and a great way to make your own yarn.   Students will learn the basics of spinning, while I “spin some yarns” about the history of this ancient art and be able to take home some wool and a spindle. Bring a lunch or snack with you!

Have you heard rumors about something called Bacon Jam?  What is it?  How do you make it?  What do you do with it?  Unravel the mystery with a workshop where we will make some in our 1880s kitchen on a real word-burning stove.  Everyone will take home the recipe and a container of jam, as well as suggestions for using it. You won’t regret it!!!!!

Students will taste cane syrup, learn the process of making butter, tour the plants and animals of the 1880s farmstead, and learn about children games and crafts from on the farm. Students will get an understanding of what all had to be done around the farm before they could play or relax.

Parents do not need to stay during the program. They are encouraged to sign the child in then come back to sign the child out. If the parent does want to stay for the program, then s/he must pay admissions.

Market Days is one of the Southeast’s largest and best juried arts and crafts shows. Featuring the unique, handmade creations of approximately 300 artists, top-quality artisans, and craftspeople. Market Days offers a wonderful array of works in various price ranges, from breathtaking fine art to charming stocking stuffers. The works include fine arts, ceramics, country furniture, stained glass, woodwork, glasswork, dolls, clocks, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, metalwork, clothing, photography and calligraphy. Proceeds benefit the Tallahassee Museum.

“Flora and Fauna Edition”
Monotype is a type of printmaking made by drawing on glass with oily paint and then pressing
by hand onto an absorbent sheet of paper. In this class, Christina Fullerton will lead
participants in creating their very own monoprint.
