Mullet: Historic Fishing in the Big Bend

May 20, 2017 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
$100 members/ $110 Nonmembers

This workshop is tailored for people with little to no experience throwing a cast net.  Nets will be provided for the duration of the workshop, but students can bring their own if they wish. During the workshop, each person will learn to throw a net that fits their size and ability, make an antique style fish scaler, prepare a fish, smoke it, and process it into a dip.  Participants will take home their fish scaler, smoked fish dip, and reference sheet about the selection and care of a cast net.  All materials provided, but participants should bring a small cooler to bring home their fish dip. Participants should wear shirts and pants without NO exposed buttons. Buttons will tear holes in nets.   Taught by Ken Horne and James Gorman, both are professional teachers and avid fishermen.  Registration deadline: Wednesday May 17, 2017 at noon.
