Current Positions Available:

Marketing Specialist – (Part-time)

The Tallahassee Museum is seeking a talented and highly-organized part-time Marketing Specialist to join our team. This position will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Membership to help coordinate internal and external communications. Responsibilities include assisting with media buying, managing social media marketing, writing content for both print and digital channels, developing content for marketing materials, crafting media alerts/press releases and other marketing/PR activities for the museum’s programs, special events/exhibits and Tree to Tree Adventures course. Occasional weekend work is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in PR, journalism, marketing, recreation and tourism, communications, a related field OR at least four (4) years of professional experience working in one of these fields
  • Knowledge of media relations, digital content marketing and advertising, video production, fundraising, WordPress content management, and social media marketing preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work in a creative, fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • A creative eye and the ability to multitask
  • Ability to organize work and meet deadlines to achieve team goals and objectives

Preschool Manager (Full-time)

The Tallahassee Museum’s highly respected and nationally accredited preschool is seeking an experienced and qualified Preschool Manager.  This individual will build upon the program’s 48 year history and continue its leadership in museum-based, experiential preschool education.

The Preschool program currently offers classes to children ages 3.5- 5 years, and operates from 7:30am-5:30pm with a full-day program and a half-day program. The program also offers a summer camp program as well.  The Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program is offered 3 days a week to both full-day and half-day classes. Our program gives the growing child the opportunity to develop an understanding of and appreciation for their ever expanding world through nature and history-based play and hands-on experiences in a 52 acre setting. Lessons are delivered in unique settings from the historic farmstead to hardwood hammocks to dry sinkholes, and cypress swamps, as well as in the classroom.

Candidates should be energetic, passionate, creative and committed to instilling learning habits and developing the physical, mental, and social skills of our program’s children. The Preschool Manager will exhibit a willingness to achieve what the excellence of our program  requires, from assessing state test scores, to crouching low to the ground to building tiny houses from sticks and leaves.

Candidates must possess the required Director Credentials per the Florida Department of Children and Families. Preference will be given to candidates who have direct experience in applying for and maintaining national preschool accreditation standards.

Salary: Based on education and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages Preschool’s budget and financial success in order for the school to contribute to the program’s sustainability.
  • Hires, supervises, coaches and trains staff
  • Operates the school according to state licensing standards and within the mission and policies of the Tallahassee Museum.
  • Assists teachers with development and execution of curriculum and activities that contribute to the growth, education, and development of the children in our school.
  • Communicates and meets regularly with parents, Museum staff and community members.
  • Purchases supplies, equipment, food, etc. while operating within budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintains personnel required credentials and in-service hours. Stays abreast of best early childhood practices and academic benchmarks.
  • Ensures the safety of the children in our care.

On-site Membership Sales Associates (Part-time)

The Museum is looking for outgoing candidates to join our on-site membership sales team! Hours are flexible, but sales associate position is required to work mostly on weekends and some holidays (approx. 10 – 20 hours a month). Commissioned-based. Previous sales experience preferred. Adventure Course Guide (Part-time, 15-25 hours per week)

We are currently seeking strong candidates to add two new guides to our Tallahassee Tree To Tree Adventures course, an aerial adventure course with ziplines. The two successful candidates will be physically fit, comfortable working at heights as well as on the ground and working in an outdoor environment. They will be professional in nature, dependable, have leadership traits, be strong communicators and enjoy conversations with clients. They will have a love of nature and outdoor adventure and enjoy sharing that love with clients. Strong attention to detail and safety is critical. Duties include orally briefing and guiding clients, assisting in daily course inspections and maintenance, and other duties assigned by management. Work schedule can vary during the week based upon course attendance but averages between 15 to 25 hours per week. Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings. Visitor Services Retail Team Member (Part-time, up to 24 hours per week)

We are looking for outgoing energetic people who are excited about enhancing our visitors’ experience through the sale of tickets and merchandise on our Visitor Services Retail Team. Primary responsibilities include direct interaction with our visitors and museum staff both in person and on the phone, maintaining impeccable customer service quality while selling tickets and merchandise using a point of sale system, as well as providing information about the museum and upcoming events utilizing the museum’s website and scheduling software and maintaining the visually appealing and inviting appearance of the Museum Store. Candidate must have outstanding customer service skills, retail experience, the ability to multitask, excellent communication, strong computer skills and enjoy working in a fast paced environment as a part of a team. Estimated hours are up to but no more than 24 hours per week, must be available on weekends, and some evenings may be required as well. Birthday Party Programmer (Part-time; as needed)

Seeking a high-energy, enthusiastic team player responsible for implementing birthday party programs that incorporate the mission and philosophy of the Museum. Primary responsibilities include: setting up and implementing activities for birthday parties, greeting party participants and assisting them to the party site, facilitating fun and memorable experiences for guests.  Requires a pleasant disposition, excellent communication, and customer service skills. Summer Camp Teachers (Full-time/ seasonal 6/1/2019-8/9/2019

Seeking enthusiastic summer camp teachers for Tallahassee Museum summer camps! Teachers must enjoy the outdoors, science, the arts, and working to inspire and educate tomorrow’s leaders. We offer a healthy balance of indoor and outdoor activities in a 52 acre classroom of wild habitats, historic buildings, exhibit space, nature trails, lakes, and shared forestry land.
