Current Positions Available:

Educator – (Part-time)

The Tallahassee Museum is looking for a Museum Educator to implement and support educational initiatives to serve the Museum’s mission and audiences. Many of our programs take place outdoors. Qualifying candidates will have a love of the outdoors and be experienced in working outside in the North Florida climate. Programs include: school programs and tours, birthdays, Scout programs, Adult programs and tours, community outreach programs, overnight adventures, and camps. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Assist with material prep, program set up, facilitation of engaging hands-on activities, program delivery, promoting the Museum, break down of programs, and attendance reporting. Camp runs during the summer, winter break, spring break, and during Teacher In-Service days, and runs from 7:30am-5:45pm on camp days. This is a part-time position with at least 15 hours per week, perhaps more depending on program demand, with no more than 29 hours per week.

Hours will range in the weekdays from 9am-4pm (variable per needs of museum), but the emphasis of this position is on the flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a Bachelors in history, education, or one of the natural sciences, or be in their junior year of university working toward a Bachelors degree in one of these majors.
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to enforce museum specific etiquette with students
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including students, teacher, museum staff and visitors
  • Must have a flexible schedule that will allow for some fluctuation due to school, event or museum variants
  • Must have reliable transportation

Birthday Party Programmer – (Part-time, as needed)

Seeking a high-energy, enthusiastic team player responsible for implementing birthday party programs that incorporate the mission and philosophy of the Museum. Primary responsibilities include: setting up and implementing activities for birthday parties, greeting party participants and assisting them to the party site, facilitating fun and memorable experiences for guests.  Requires a pleasant disposition, excellent communication, and customer service skills. Summer Camp Teachers – (Full-time/Seasonal 6/1/19-8/9/19)

Seeking enthusiastic summer camp teachers for Tallahassee Museum summer camps! Teachers must enjoy the outdoors, science, the arts, and working to inspire and educate tomorrow’s leaders. We offer a healthy balance of indoor and outdoor activities in a 52-acre classroom of wild habitats, historic buildings, exhibit space, nature trails, lakes, and shared forestry land. Preschool Manager (Full-time)

The Tallahassee Museum’s highly respected and nationally accredited preschool is seeking an experienced and qualified Preschool Manager.  This individual will build upon the program’s 48-year history and continue its leadership in museum-based, experiential preschool education.

The Preschool program currently offers classes to children ages 3.5- 5 years, and operates from 7:30am-5: 30 pm with a full-day program and a half-day program. The program also offers a summer camp program as well.  The Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten Program is offered 3 days a week to both full-day and half-day classes. Our program gives the growing child the opportunity to develop an understanding of and appreciation for their ever-expanding world through nature and history-based play and hands-on experiences in a 52-acre setting. Lessons are delivered in unique settings from the historic farmstead to hardwood hammocks to dry sinkholes, and cypress swamps, as well as in the classroom.

Candidates should be energetic, passionate, creative and committed to instilling learning habits and developing the physical, mental, and social skills of our program’s children. The Preschool Manager will exhibit a willingness to achieve what the excellence of our program requires, from assessing state test scores, to crouching low to the ground to building tiny houses from sticks and leaves.

Candidates must possess the required Director Credentials per the Florida Department of Children and Families. Preference will be given to candidates who have direct experience in applying for and maintaining national preschool accreditation standards.

Salary: Based on education and experience.


  • Manages the Preschool’s budget and financial success in order for the school to contribute to the program’s sustainability.
  • Hires, supervises, coaches and trains staff
  • Operates the school according to state licensing standards and within the mission and policies of the Tallahassee Museum.
  • Assists teachers with development and execution of curriculum and activities that contribute to the growth, education, and development of the children in our school.
  • Communicates and meets regularly with parents, Museum staff and community members.
  • Purchases supplies, equipment, food, etc. while operating within budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintains personnel required credentials and in-service hours. Stays abreast of best early childhood practices and academic benchmarks.
  • Ensures the safety of the children in our care.
  • Other duties as requested

On-site Membership Sales Associates (Part-time)

The Museum is looking for outgoing candidates to join our on-site membership sales team! Hours are flexible, but sales associate position is required to work mostly on weekends and some holidays (approx. 10 – 20 hours a month). Commissioned-based. Previous sales experience preferred.
