Many media outlets have speculated that firearm sales are increasing because the current pandemic has heightened the fears of Americans who are experiencing economic and political uncertainty. But what other factors have led to this resurgence of gun sales? And why have so many Americans turned to firearm ownership for peace of mind? For this discussion, we will explore: some of the public health risks associated with firearm ownership; the reasons many Americans seek solace in gun ownership; and the benefits to personal well-being that firearms provide to their owners.
