Tallahassee Museum to Break Ground on New “Journeys” Exhibit Building with Support from Rotary Club of Tallahassee

Tallahassee, FL — The Tallahassee Museum is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the new “Journeys” Exhibit Building, scheduled for Friday, November 8 at 9 a.m.  Once complete, the highly anticipated exhibit will serve as a centerpiece for exploring the cultural and social identity of the region, made possible through a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Tallahassee.

The new 1,200-square-foot, climate-controlled building will be carefully designed to complement the historic aesthetic of the surrounding structures. With its open layout, the space will offer a safe, temperature-regulated environment for protecting artifacts and ensuring the comfort of visitors year-round. The exhibit, expected to be completed in 2025, will delve into the stories of the diverse communities that have lived in, migrated to, or left the area, showcasing their unique contributions to the region’s heritage.

“We are thrilled to break ground on this meaningful project that celebrates the rich tapestry of our community’s history,” said Russell Daws,  President/CEO of the Tallahassee Museum. “The ‘Journeys’ exhibit will give our visitors an immersive, interactive experience that honors the individuals and communities that have shaped our region. We are deeply grateful to the Rotary Club of Tallahassee for their partnership and vision in making this possible.”

Featuring never-before-seen artifacts from the Museum’s collections, interactive elements, and interpretive labels, the “Journeys” exhibit will provide a dynamic learning experience for all ages. By highlighting stories of resilience, adaptation, and innovation, the exhibit seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural evolution.

Pamela Griggs, President of the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, expressed pride in the Rotary Club’s support for the project. “As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, it is an honor to partner with the Tallahassee Museum on this initiative that highlights the stories and contributions of our diverse communities. This exhibit is a testament to our commitment to enriching our city and honoring its heritage, and we can’t wait to see the impact it will have on our community for generations to come.”
