2024 Summer Camp

Rising 1st Graders – Rising 9th Graders

All year long, kids are counting down the days till summer break. That’s why Tallahassee Museum is offering our yearly Summer Camp program to let kids be kids this summer! Led by our experienced educators, Tallahassee Museum Summer Camp offers an array of different activities for children ages to enjoy. Our team approach implements creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication into each day’s lesson plan. From encounters with wildlife to exploring cultural heritage, your child will have an enriching camp experience at the Museum.

For our youngest campers, the Tallahassee Museum offers our pre-school summer camp! Children ages 3-5 years old are welcome to sign up. Campers must be fully potty trained with no adult assistance to participate. Please see the Preschool Page for more information.

REGISTRATIONS

Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Extended Hours ($8 per day/$35 a week): 7:45am – 9:00am and 4:00pm – 5:30pm
(Campers picked up after 5:30pm will be charged $1 per minute)

Online registration will close at 12 p.m. on the Friday prior to each camp. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Early registration is recommended.

You will receive an email the Friday before camp starts which details what the campers will be doing during the week. Please see the “Parent Handbook” for any FAQ.

If a camp is sold out, then please email registrations@tallahasseemuseum.org to get on the waiting list. Your camper’s name, your name, the grade, the week, and a phone number.

We understand that changes arise in scheduling and therefore allow for one change in date and time no less than 2 weeks prior to the camp date. A $25 administrative fee for program date/time change is applied to any change made in addition to the allowed change, or one that is less than 2 weeks prior. Rising 1st Grade: $190 member/$200 nonmember
(some weeks will have an up-charge, which is noted in the description)

Rising 2nd Grade: $190 member/$200 nonmember
(some weeks will have an up-charge, which is noted in the description)

Rising 3rd-4th Grade: $240 member/$250 nonmember
(some weeks will have an up-charge, which is noted in the description)
*Campers go on field trips on Tuesday and Thursday

Rising 5th – 7th Grade: $240 member/$250 nonmember
(some weeks will have an up-charge, which is noted in the description)
*Campers go on field trips on Wednesday and Friday

Jr. CIT (8th-9th grade): $90 member/$100 nonmember
(Jr. CITs will be in class with kindergarten or 1st grade; they are there to assist the teacher; they are still considered a camper; they are under the supervision of a teacher at all times)
*All Jr CITs must provide a letter of intent and a reference letter to the Education Programs Manager, Allison Ashcroft, at aashcroft@tallahasseemuseum.org before they are considered to participate

Tree to Tree Adventure Camps:
Tree to Tree is only available for camps that are listed as Zip Camps, please see below for requirements. It is optional for your child to participate in Tree to Tree.
Parents must complete the Tree-to-Tree e-zwaiver no more than 24 hours prior to day camp. Children 41” – 60” tall may use the TREEmendous Adventures Course, $15 per child. Children at least 54” tall may use the Canopy Crossing Course, $25 per child. ****Fees are in addition to the camp fee. A link will be emailed to you the week before camp, so you can pay this fee online. Tree to Tree waivers must be filled out each time your child participates in the course.***

THEMES

May 28-31 – Creepy Crawly
This week we will dive into the life of the bugs, snails, worms, and amphibians around us. We will explore nature and all the things that may make us a little uncomfortable. How many feet does a centipede have? Are snakes really slimy? Find out at camp.
*There are not any field trips for 3rd-4th and 5th-7th this week. It is prorated for 4 days.

June 3-7 – Kitchen Chemistry
Fermentation, raw creations, and old-fashioned recipes in and on the woodstove! Campers will learn a variety of ways that people prepare food and the science behind it. Each day will be a new exploration in kitchen chemistry.

June 10-14 – Connecting Florida’s History – T2T
Wagons, mules, planes, trains, boats, and automobiles. Together we will learn about the history of transportation in Florida. The museum has several historic wagons, the red caboose, and the historic Henry Ford Model T.

June 17-21 – Zoo Crew 1
There are various reasons why animals live at the Tallahassee Museum. Campers will get to learn about those reasons and learn how the Animal Department cares for them. Campers will learn about animal enrichment, and why animals in captivity need it. Campers will understand the natural behaviors of the different animal species at the Museum and will spend the week making enrichments for the animals.

June 24-28 – Lights Out
Don’t be scared of the dark as most animals become active when the sun goes down. Campers will learn about nocturnal animals, bioluminescence, and animals that live in caves.

NO CAMP July 1-5

July 8-12 – Ocean Conservation
Campers will learn about the different sections of the ocean and the creatures that call it home. We will discuss the importance of the life in the ocean and why it is important to protect it for generations to come.

July 15-19 – Enchanted Forest – T2T
The sun rises, fog starts to disappear, and dew glistens to reveal a magical, marvelous world. This week campers will flit from forest to forest with a fairy friend as their guide, discovering the wonders of our enchanted forests. The truth is out there, stories of Bigfoot, The Lockness Monster, and many other mythical creatures have been around for centuries. Take a walk on the wild side while we explore real life animals that resemble these urban legends.

July 29-Aug 2 – Prehistoric Adventures
Let’s take a trip to the past. We will start 165 million years ago when the dinosaurs roamed the planet and learn about Jim Gary’s dinosaurs made from recycled car parts. Then we will travel to 2 million years ago when mastodons lived in Florida. There is no time like the present to learn about the past.

Aug 5-9 – Natural Disasters
This camp explores volcanoes, earthquakes, sinkholes, hurricanes, tornadoes, and landslides. Campers will make volcanoes, learn a few things about hydrogeology, plate tectonics, extreme weather, and so much more!
