K-8th Grade Summer Camp 2023

2023 Summer Camps Kindergarten – 8th Grade

All year long, kids are counting down the days till summer break. That’s why Tallahassee Museum is offering our yearly Summer Camp program to let kids be kids this summer! Led by our experienced educators, Tallahassee Museum Summer Camp offers an array of different activities for children ages Kindergarten-8th grade to enjoy. Our team approach implements creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and communication into each day’s lesson plan. From encounters with wildlife to exploring cultural heritage, your child will have an enriching camp experience at the Museum. Camps are offered to children who have completed grades kindergarten- 6th grade and Jr. CITs (7th-8th graders).

For our youngest campers, the Tallahassee Museum offers our pre-school summer camp! Children ages 3-5 years old are welcome to sign up. Campers must be fully potty trained with no adult assistance to participate. Please see the Preschool Page for more information.

REGISTRATIONS

Hours: 9:00am – 4:00pm

Extended Hours ($8 per day/$35 a week): 7:45am – 9:00am and 4:00pm – 5:30pm
(Campers picked up after 5:30pm will be charged $1 per minute)

Online registration will close at 12 p.m. on the Friday prior to each camp. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Early registration is recommended.

You will receive an email the Friday before camp starts that details what the campers will be doing that week.

If a camp is sold out, then please email registrations@tallahasseemuseum.org to get on the waiting list. Your camper’s name, your name, the grade, the week, and a phone number.

We understand that changes arise in scheduling and therefore allow for one change in date and time no less than 2 weeks prior to the camp date. A $25 administrative fee for program date/time change is applied to any change made in addition to the allowed change, or one that is less than 2 weeks prior. Please see the “Parent Handbook” for more information.

Camp is offered to children by GRADE COMPLETED FOR THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR. For example: if your child is in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year, then sign them up for kindergarten camp. Do not sign the camper(s) up for the grade they will be in for 2023-2024. You will be charged a $25 administrative fee for any changes.

Jr. CIT (7th-8th grade): $90 member/$100 nonmember
(Jr. CITs will be in class with kindergarten or 1st grade; they are there to assist the teacher, but they are still considered a camper.)

Tree to Tree Adventure Camps:
Tree to Tree is only available for camps that are listed as Zip Camps, please see below for requirements. It is optional for your child to participate in Tree to Tree.
Parents must complete the Tree-to-Tree e-zwaiver no more than 24 hours prior to day camp. Children 41” – 60” tall may use the TREEmendous Adventures Course, $15 per child. Children at least 54” tall may use the Canopy Crossing Course, $25 per child. ****Fees are in addition to the camp fee. A link will be emailed to you the week before camp, so you can pay this fee online. Tree to Tree waivers must be filled out each time your child participates in the course.***

May 30 – June 2 Outdoor Education

Campers will spend the week learning about the outdoors. They will take nature walks, explore the animals, and enjoy playing outside.
This week is prorated. 2nd-6th grade will not be going on field trips this week.

June 5 – 9 Prehistoric History

Let’s take a trip to the past. We will start 165 million years ago when the dinosaurs roamed the planet and travel to 2 million years ago with mastodons lived in Florida. There is no time like the present to learn about the past.

June 12 – 16 Animal Superpowers(Tree to Tree Adventures)

Campers will spend the week learning about the real-life superpowers that animals have, how these abilities help the animals survive, and will get the chance to participate in Tree to Tree Adventures.

June 19 – 23 Zoo Crew 1

Go behind the scenes of the Tallahassee Museum’s zoo with this popular, very special camp.  Visit with foxes, bobcats, otters, bears, red wolves and Florida Panthers as well as an exotic guest animal.  Learn about a day in the life of a zoo keeper and help with animal care, exhibit design, animal enrichment, and diet preparation. $10 increase

June 26 – 30 Nature Detectives

I spy with my little eye, something CREEPY! Together we will take a closer look at the nature around us. We will investigate the different colors, patterns, and textures around us. They will learn why each creature is important and have a better understanding of the nature around them.

July 10 – 14 Extreme Weather

This week we will discuss the difference between climate and weather and the elements of each that contribute to natural disasters. Throughout the week, we’ll focus on weather related natural disasters and make models of some of the more familiar ones to our region. By the end of the week, campers will create a disaster plan for themselves and their families.

July 17 – 21 Zoo Crew 2

July 24 – 28 Following the Food Chain (Tree to Tree Adventures)

Together, we will learn about the 5 levels of the food chain. Through games and adventures, campers will learn what it is like to be at the bottom of the food chain and the top. Campers will also get the chance to follow a different kind of chain – the one from our Tree to Tree Adventures course!

July 31 – August 4 What’s in the Water?

Why is water so important? Campers will learn why water is so important to us and why we should help keep it clean. By the end of the week campers will have created their very own plan for how to care for the world’s water.
